ILC present at the Porto Book Fair 2018

The Porto Book Fair to be held from 7th to 23rd September in the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal recalls in this edition the 50 years of the student demonstrations of May 1968, taking advantage of the most urgent revolutions for the present day , with José Mário Branco being honored.

There will also be talk about memory and literary reinvention; about sex as an insurrection; on the link between music and literature, among other themes, bringing together some of the most relevant names in the Portuguese literary universe, such as Mário de Carvalho, Mia Couto and Bernardo de Carvalho, with younger, national and international authors, who in recent months have surprised the publishing world – especially the French novelist of Moroccan origin, Leila Slimani.

This year, a short course of literature is also organized, and Calvin’s question, “Why Read Classics?” Is borrowed as a generic title. The proposal is to approach the universe of authors like Dante, Cervantes, Shakespeare, Goethe, Flaubert, among others, beginning in the Greeks, arriving at the 20th century with Fernando Pessoa, crossing several geographies: United States with Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson, Russia with Chekhov , South America with Machado de Assis.
To give these lessons, the Book Fair invites Ana Paula Coutinho, Ana Luís Amaral, Rosa Maria Martelo and Pedro Eiras, from the Institute of Comparative Literature, who work in the academy these classic authors as well as reader-lovers.
