The study of film and literature is generally reduced to a one-way traffic, from texts to movies. Yet literature can also continue and enrich cinema, not just by describing it, but by offering new versions of existing movies in print. This seminar will discuss two types of such a migration from screen to page: a verbal one (novelisation) and a visual one (film photonovel).

Jan Baetens is professor emeritus of cultural studies at the University of Leuven. He has widely published on French literature and word and image studies. A published novelist and poet, he often collaborates with visual artists.
