Mathilde Ferreira Neves works in film and literature. She took a doctorate degree from the University of Porto with a grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology–her thesis is titled “What resists (us)? The spectrographic gesture in Pedro Costa, Claudio Parmiggiani and Joaquim Manuel Magalhães” (2018). She co-founded the inter-artistic studies and practices e-magazine ESC:ALA (which she co-directed between 2014 and 2017). She is the author of the book Marguerite Duras – O cinema da escrita | A escrita da voz | A voz do cinema (Afrontamento/2013), which reproduces the thesis of her master’s degree at the University of Porto. She co-directed the short film sobe, adensa, esgarça, desce, which premiered at IndieLisboa Film Festival 2007. She travelled across China for three months with a grant from the Fundação Oriente to develop a project combining writing and image (2005). She completed the documentary traineeship at Ateliers Varan, in Paris, with a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, having directed the documentary film Gaëtan (2003). She has a degree in Communication Sciences, specializing in Film, from the University of Lisbon (2001).
