The research conducted within ILCML does not raise any ethical issues in what regards laboratorial research. Yet, there are strands within the three fields of action of ILCML that clearly promote a reflection on ethics, not only from the theoretical point of view, but also from the point of view of the social impact.
Combining ethics, politics and History necessarily entails a concern with the minorities – the marginalized, the oppressed, the segregated – while offering alternatives for new ways of constructing communities.
ILC is committed to equality, citizenship and non-discrimination. Therefore, the Unit is also engaged with the University of Porto’s policy – UP Equality. On this basis, recognising diversity in all its activities, ILC promotes a policy of inclusion and equal access, particularly gender equality.
