Open Access: What to do?

Through the implementation of its Open Access Policy, FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, defined a set of rules to be complied with by the beneficiaries (researchers and institutions), with the goal to guaranteeing the availability of research results in Open Access.

The rules defined by the FCT Open Access Policy are applicable to all publications by researchers subject to peer review, whether or not they have been directly funded by the Unit.

Mention the funding reference

Reference to ILCML’s multi-annual funding is mandatory for all publications by researchers. It must be indicated as follows:

PT

EN

This article/chapter/book was written within the scope of research developed at the Institute for Comparative Literature, an R&D Unit financed by national funds through FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (UIDB/00500/2020).

FR

Cet article/chapitre/livre a été développé dans le cadre de l’Institut de Littérature Comparée, Unité R&D financée par des fonds nationaux de la FCT – Fondation pour la Science et la Technologie (UIDB/00500/2020).

When work is also funded by other projects or agencies, references to funding must accumulate.

Mention the institutional affiliation

The indication of institutional affiliation in publications is mandatory. Failure to use the standard defined by the R&D Unit and the University of Porto – Faculty of Arts and Humanities makes it impossible to provide the correct indicators of the scientific productivity of its researchers, both for the evaluation of the R&D Unit, as well as for the organic Units and/or Higher Education Institutions to which they belong.

Plan S: What to know?

FCT announced the implementation of Plan S in Portugal as of 2022. Compliance with it will be mandatory for fundings initiated from that year onwards.

Plan S is an initiative that aims to accelerate the transition to Open Access. It argues that all scientific publications resulting from research, using public funding, should be published in immediate open access.

In the context of FCT’s activity, the open access provided for by Plan S can be achieved in three ways
