Launch of Fear of Aging

April 15

At the launch of the Fear of Aging collection, there will be a talk with several of the authors who contributed to this publication.

This is the first book in Aging Studies to bring together essays on the relationship between terror and ageing. In the horror genre, the elderly are often used as a trope to evoke both the fear of death and the fear of ageing. Old age is thus equated with physical, mental or social decline. The contributors to this book investigate precisely what we fear when we place old age as a source of horror. The aim is to harness the emotions and pleasures of horror to think about how the quality of life can be improved in old age and how older people can be better integrated into our increasingly fearful and suspicious societies.
