Rosa Maria Martelo

Rosa Maria Martelo is a retired Full Professor at the University of Porto (Faculty of Arts) and an integrated researcher at Margarida Losa Comparative Literature Institute (ILCML). She was member of the ILCML Board of Directors for several terms (1999-2002; 2005-2011; 2014-2019), and she coordinated the Intermedialities Group (2014-2019). Holding a PhD in Portuguese Literature, with the thesis Carlos de Oliveira e a Referência em Poesia (published by Campo das Letras, 1998), she works on Portuguese poetry and modern and contemporary poetry and poetics. In the context of Comparative Literature and Interart Studies, her research is dedicated to intermedial and transmedial relationships of modern and contemporary poetry with visual arts and cinema. In this context, she has integrated several research projects and supervises doctoral theses and post-doctoral projects.

Some publications: A Forma Informe – Leituras de Poesia (2010, Jacinto do Prado Coelho Award), O Cinema da Poesia (2012, 2nd ed. 2017, Grande Prémio de Ensaio Eduardo Prado Coelho Award/APE and Pen Club Award), Os Nomes da Obra, Herberto Helder ou o Poema Contínuo (2016). She co-organized the anthology Poemas com Cinema (Assírio & Alvim, 2010) and organized the Antologia Dialogante de Poesia Portuguesa (Assírio & Alvim, 2021). With Paulo de Medeiros, she coordinates eLyra, a peer-reviewed journal published by LyraCompoetics International Research Network. Also with Paulo de Medeiros, she edited the magazine Portuguese Studies, MHRA, nº 36.2, November, 2020. The book Devagar, a Poesia (Documenta, 2022) is in print.
