Salette Tavares Cycle

from October to December

The year 2022 marks the centenary of the birth of Salette Tavares. Her polyhedral and interartistic work, as well as the experimentalist currents in which it was inserted, question the boundaries between the arts, the different fields of knowledge and their inter- and intra-discourses. Thus, her work still requires a transdisciplinary approach to a better understanding of her legacy.

The Institute of Comparative Literature Margarida Losa organizes, between October and December, a cycle of activities entirely dedicated to Salette Tavares. We promote conversations, debates, readings, the screening of a commented film and the promotion of a creative workshop for children.

This cycle is part of the general program Reencontrar Salette Tavares, One Hundred Years Now: Educating, Playing, Communicating. The activities organized by ILCML have the partnership of several cultural entities in the city of Porto.

On October 11th, at 7:00 pm, the session Extra Reading | Is there theater in Salette Tavares’ poetry? will take place at the São João National Theatre (Noble Hall), organized by Paula Braga and Rui Torres.

On October 25th, at 5:30 pm, a conversation will take place at Livraria Flanêur about the verbal, visual and sound intersections in the work of Salette Tavares. With Fernando Aguiar and Manuel Portela as guests, the moderation will be taken care of by Bruno Ministro.

On November 15th, at 5:30 pm, a conversation about gender and sexuality issues in the work of Salette Tavares will take place at Livraria Aberta. With Sandra Guerreiro Dias and Lúcia Evangelista as guests, the moderation will be taken care of by Inês Cardoso.

On November 26th, at 10:00 am, it will take place at MIRA | Artes Performativas the activity with Playing with Salette Tavares: Creative Experimental Poetry Workshop. With Estela Rodrigues and Daniela Duarte as organizers, the event is an invitation to explore, talk, see and create visual, graphic and sound poems based on works by the poet Salette Tavares, aimed at children from 10 years old. The event is free, but prior registration is required using a form.
