Fernando Clara is Professor at the Department of Modern Languages of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, New University of Lisbon, where he also got his PhD in German Culture (2002). His main work areas and research interests are in the fields of German, European and Cultural Studies, as well as German-Portuguese Relations. His recent publications include Mundos de Palavras. Viagem, História, Ciência, Literatura: Portugal no espaço de Língua Alemã (1770-1810) (Frankfurt am Main: Peter Lang 2007), and the co-edited volumes Rahmenwechsel Kulturwissenschaften (Würzburg: Königs¬hausen & Neumann 2010), Europe in Black and White. Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Immigration, Race and Identity in the ‘Old Continent’ (Bristol, UK/Chicago, USA: Intellect 2011), and A Angústia da Influência.
